A market headline may tell you what happened today, but it cannot tell you whether an investment fits your goals. Before acting on a claim, pause long enough to identify what is being promised and what evidence is actually shown.
Look for what is missing
Who made the claim, and what do they stand to gain? Does it show the underlying data and time period? Does it discuss downside risk as clearly as possible gains? Investor.gov advises researching opportunities and treating risk-free promises as a warning sign.
Keep the decision separate
Use a headline as a reason to learn more, not as an instruction to trade. This guide is general education, not a recommendation to buy or sell a security.
