Security can feel like one more thing on a long list. Start with the accounts you use most and make a few small improvements you can keep up.
A few small steps toward calmer security
Update the apps you use, add another sign-in layer, and check that account recovery still works.
Update what you rely on
Turn on automatic updates where that works for you, and install updates from the official app or device settings. Remove apps and browser extensions you no longer use so there is less to maintain.
Add another layer to sign-in
Use a password manager to create a different password for each important account. Turn on multifactor authentication wherever it is offered, especially for email, financial accounts, and cloud storage.
Know how you would get back in
Review recovery email addresses and phone numbers. Keep backup codes somewhere private and separate from the account they protect. Make sure your important files have a backup you can actually restore.
You do not have to fix everything today. Pick one account, make one improvement, and return to the rest when you have a little time.
